Hello there, fellow busy moms! As the first buds of spring start to appear, signalling the end of what was likely a Netflix-intensive, indoor-activity-heavy winter season, it’s time to shake off the cobwebs (literally and figuratively) and get our nests organized for the warmer months ahead. Today, I’m sharing my top spring organizing tips for busy moms! Yes, it’s the season of renewal, hope, and finding Easter eggs in unexpected places until Halloween.
But fear not! As a professional organizer and a 34-year-old busy mom (which, let’s be honest, should qualify me for superhero status), I’ve got you covered with my top 3 tips for making this spring not only more organized but also more enjoyable. So, let’s dive in, shall we? And yes, you can totally have a sip of your coffee or a bite of your hidden chocolate stash as you read along. I won’t tell.
Remember the toys you stepped on at 2 AM? Yes, those. It’s time to tackle the toy situation head-on. Decluttering isn’t just about throwing things away; it’s about rediscovering floor space you forgot existed and not fearing for your life (or your feet) every time you navigate your living room in the dark.
Pro Tip: Make decluttering a game. Whoever can donate the most toys gets to pick the movie on family night. And by movie, I mean something that won’t make you want to poke your eyes out. Yes, it’s possible.
The Real Deal: Keep it simple. Limit the amount of categories in each bin or basket. Not only does it make cleaning up easier, but it also turns finding a specific toy from a treasure hunt into a task that actually takes less time than watching a pot boil.
Ah, the garage, a.k.a. the place where good intentions and “I’ll deal with it later” items go to spend eternity. Want to actually park your car in there? Let’s make it happen!
Start Simple: Create zones. Have a spot for seasonal decorations (because nobody needs a Christmas wreath in July), sports equipment, and those tools you bought thinking you’d become a DIY queen overnight.
Be Ruthless: If you haven’t used it in a year, it’s time to say goodbye. Exception: Holiday decorations and emergency supplies. Because, let’s face it, nobody uses their emergency kit until, well, there’s an emergency.
Clear The Floors: It’s likely your walls aren’t being used to their fullest potential. Wall hooks and track systems will add an enormous amount of storage to any space, especially garages.
Spring and summer mean more time spent outdoors. Whether it’s backyard barbecues, kiddie pools, or just enjoying a book while pretending not to hear the kids argue over whose stick is whose, having an organized outdoor space is key.
Zone Your Yard: Have a play area, a dining area, and a relaxation area. It doesn’t have to be fancy. A few chairs and a blanket can transform any space into a relaxation zone (unless the kids find you, of course).
Outdoor Toy Storage: Invest in a weatherproof bin for outdoor toys. Not only does it keep things tidy, but it also prevents you from stepping on a water gun in what was supposed to be a peaceful garden stroll.
Plant Something: Even if it’s just herbs in a pot. Involve the kids. Watching something grow is not only magical, but it’s also a great learning experience. Plus, you get fresh herbs, and who doesn’t love fresh herbs?
So fellow mamas, As you tackle your spring cleaning and organizing, remember: It’s okay if your home isn’t picture-perfect. It’s okay if dinner is sometimes a picnic in the living room because the dining table is still covered in laundry. What matters is the laughter, the love, and the joy we find amidst the chaos.
Happy organizing, and here’s to a wonderful, whirlwind of a spring!
